Galexis and Planzer keep the wheels of Swiss healthcare turning

30 July 2026

Sustainability is the result of clever logistics chains and far-sighted partners. By using an electric truck, Planzer and pharmaceutical wholesaler Galexis are serving as a role model for efficient, reliable and resource-conserving healthcare in Switzerland.

::About Galexis

Galexis AG is the market leader in Swiss healthcare logistics and a subsidiary of the Galenica Group. The pharmaceutical wholesaler has been reliably supplying the Swiss healthcare market with medication and healthcare products since 1927. Around 800 employees work at the distribution centres in Niederbipp and Lausanne-Ecublens. The company offers a full range of around 110,000 items, receives more than 130,000 order lines every day and dispatches more than 400,000 medication packages – a logistics accomplishment that demands maximum reliability and efficiency.

A far-sighted collaboration

Effective healthcare begins long before medication and healthcare products reach chemists, pharmacies, doctors’ surgeries or hospitals. It requires agile partners and intelligent logistics solutions that combine security of supply with sustainability. This is where we come in – together with Galexis.

Shuttle e-mobility

Since the start of 2026, our fully electric Scania truck has been connecting the Galexis distribution centre in Niederbipp with the distribution platform in Regensdorf twice a day. The new shuttle marks another milestone on the road to more climate-friendly healthcare logistics. Electric lorries reduce CO₂ emissions by around 90 per cent compared with diesel vehicles. This equates to an annual saving of approximately 50 tonnes of CO₂. At the same time, it ensures a reliable connection between two heavily agglomerated Swiss logistics sites.

Emphasis on environmental performance and quality of life

The route between Niederbipp and Regensdorf is ideal for the use of our latest-generation electric truck in several respects: by bundling the transport of regional deliveries, we can avoid empty runs and reduce the volume of traffic. In Regensdorf, smaller vehicles handle the local distribution of goods to the greater Zurich area and efficiently deliver medications and health products to their destinations. In addition to emission-free driving, our e-truck also offers another advantage: the quiet electric drive significantly reduces noise, improving not only our environmental footprint, but also the quality of life of people along the transport route.

Responsibility for security of supply

In our understanding of healthcare, sustainability means much more than simply reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Equally important is ensuring that medications and medical products are always available safely, on time and in impeccable quality. Security of supply and environmental responsibility therefore go hand in hand. Based on this approach, we founded the joint venture Health Supply AG with Galenica in 2024. Since July 2025, we have been offering transportation using HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) – a renewable fuel made from biogenic residues and waste that can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to fossil diesel.

One piece of a bigger puzzle

The new electric truck on the Niederbipp–Regensdorf route further refines our commitment to sustainable and secure supply in Switzerland. It is an important piece of the puzzle in our overall long-term strategy. Accordingly, we are continually investing in alternative drive technologies, testing new drive energy sources and pushing forward the transition to sustainably healthy logistics solutions.

‘In addition to the ongoing reduction of emissions and the careful use of resources, we have one key focus: stable, resilient and efficient logistics.’
