Let there be light

5 April 2023

Poverty is a problem with a devastating humanitarian impact around the world. Together with the BPN Foundation, we are fighting poverty in developing countries. Recently, we have taken on an entrepreneur sponsorship, enabling Enkhbayar, a vehicle lighting specialist, to earn a living for himself and his family, and to create jobs.

::About BPN (Business Professionals Network)

The BPN Foundation has been supporting small business owners in developing countries with individual coaching, business training and loans since 1999. Its aim is to develop solid small and medium-sized companies and create jobs. BPN’s concept is highly successful and is con-stantly being expanded. Following consolidation in Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nicaragua and Rwanda, BPN has also been active in Georgia since 2016.

A good match

We at Planzer are in the business of taking action. That’s why we prefer to support people with a similar mindset and approach. And that’s why, since 2020, we have been partnered with the non-governmental organisation BPN. A clear idea, conviction, perseverance and the awareness that serious voluntary work both demands a lot and gives a lot back – these are the basic ideas behind the BPN Foundation. There’s a great deal of overlap with our convictions as a sustainable family company.

Help that goes on helping

BPN fights poverty and provides support in a range of emerging and developing countries, with a philosophy of ‘helping people to help themselves’. To date, it has supported almost 1800 small businesses and over 34,000 jobs. It assists people in setting up their businesses professionally so they can both secure and maintain jobs. BPN uses charitable contributions to cover the costs incurred in connection with coaching and supporting people, for example through field visits, the preparation and execution of seminars and workshops, and related administrative tasks. You can find out more about this in the short video ‘BPN briefly explained’ with CEO Willi Helbling.

Bringing light to the darkness

In a further development to our cooperation with BPN, we have taken on an entrepreneur sponsorship for Enkhbayar N. in Mongolia. Enkhbayar’s business specialises in lighting for vehicles. He repairs and maintains various lighting systems and installs them in motor vehicles. Enkhbayar’s customers value his high-quality, reliably executed work, his advice and the high quality of his lights. Enkhbayar sells his services and products through his own workshop and sales outlets. He would like to expand his market area in Mongolia and establish himself as one of the leading businesses in the vehicle lighting sector.

A future worth thinking about

Enkhbayar’s business idea works and has scope for further development. It is helping him and his family escape poverty. With our contribution, we want to help make it possible for him to perfect it and expand his market presence. Because we believe that people can turn good ideas into practical solutions and implement them successfully. As long as values like respect, hard work, decency, enjoyment and passion are upheld at work.

Only one thing differentiates us substantially from Enkhbayar: we live in Switzerland and are active here and in Europe in highly developed markets. This means we don’t have to consider on a daily basis how we can secure food or a roof over our heads.

We enjoy the luxury of being able to think about the future. And about how we can make even more out of what we have. This is a luxury we would like to share – with people like Enkhbayar.

‘Through BPN’s commitment, I want to give back to society something of what was entrusted to me.’

Willi Helbling, CEO of BPN
